Suffers Heart Attack While Dubbing His Voice For TV Serial, passes away


CHENNAI: The film director-actor, known for his character roles, Marimuthu, passed away in Chennai on Friday. He is remembered for his roles in blockbusters like "Pariyerum Perumal" and Rajinikanth’s "Jailer.


Tamil actor G. Marimuthu, 57, died on September 8 morning after a heart attack while dubbing for a television serial in a studio. He became more popular recently when he played the villain role of ‘Aadhi Gunasekaran’ in ‘Ethir Neechal’, a television serial being telecast on Sun TV.


Marimuthu was a native of Pasumalai, Theni district. Like many others of his generation, he ran away from his home to Chennai to become a film director. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. He was an assistant to poet Vairamuthu.


He also worked as an assistant director to Vasanth, Manirathinam, S.J. Suryah and Seeman. He directed two films ‘Kannum Kannum’ and ‘Pulival’



He acted in more than 50 films including the recent movie, Jailer starring Rajinikanth, and Pariyerum Perumal. He was a writer as well.


Members of the film fraternity and political leaders expressed condolences.


Marimuthu suffered a heart attack while dubbing his voice for a television serial. He was rushed to a private hospital in Vadapani, where he was declared dead.

He is survived by his wife Bhagyalakshmi, son Akilan, and daughter Ishwarya.


The 57-year-old actor hailed from Varusanadu in Theni district. He had a long association with the film industry, but behind the camera. He directed two films — "Kannum Kannum" and "Pulivaal."


Earlier, he had worked as an assistant director with Maniratnam, Seeman, Vasanth, and S J Suriya.

While working with director-actor Rajkiran, he assisted in the making of "Aranmanaikili" and "Ellaame En Rasaadhan."


His family said his mortal remains will be taken to his native village of Pasumalaitheri after a brief public homage in Chennai.
